The Sleep Disorder

Today I wanted to talk about the sleep disorder or somnipathy (that’s a word I’d never heard of). I get a better night sleep last night because I was not thinking about stuff as much last night. I also even got any an hour or two nap in the early evening. Gee, I have to stop that…lol.

I guess that are many sleep disorders like were discussed in my previous post about sleep apnea. Isn’t it strange that something that should be so simple like sleep can have it’s problems. I mean I had not idea that the just the sleep apnea disorder was so common. Again, if you snore that is something you really should get checked out by a doctor.

I know your humble host The Night Owl, is surprised at just how much there is to learn about the topic. I’ve kind of taken for granted that laying down and sleeping could be so difficult that they would set up sleep disorder clinics to help the thousands affected by them.

One disorder that I read about today was REM sleep disorder. I guess when most people enter the phase of dreaming in their sleep and their eyes move called rapid eye movement, the body enters some sort of paralysis. But with this disorder, I guess the body doesn’t enter the same situational paralysis as a normal sleeper and it if you have it I guess you physically act out your dreams. I read that this could include talking, punching, and otherwise violent things. This type of sleep walking can be dangerous I would think as someone could get hurt.

It’s more common in men and middle aged to older people but also is induced in people who are having withdrawals from alcohol or drugs.

Most of us are more familiar with insomnia sleep disorder. This is just the lack of sleep that alot of us face from time to time. While many people probably don’t seek the advice of doctor, it’s probably a good idea to check into some sleep disorder treatment that might be available. They can then determine what if anything might need to be done after conducting a sleep disorder test.

I was listening to something the other day that was also saying that it is definitely a good idea to regulate your sleep by trying to go to bed at the same time every night. I think that would probably extend into regulating the time you get up as well. What I always try and do is get the same amount of sleep even if I don’t get it all at night to at least get the rest that I need.

Personally I’ve never been to a sleep disorder clinic or a sleep disorder center and I don’t really know anyone that has. I do know that if you a displaying any sleep disorder symptoms that you would need to be evaluated at a clinic like that that specializes in sleep disorders.

You can read more about a list of sleep disorder related conditions at Wikipedia.
